Black History Month
For Black History Month, Year 2 have been looking at famous black sports people and their achievements. One of the people we have learnt about is Tessa Sanderson CBE. She is a six-time Olympian and was the first black woman to win a gold medal. To this day, she still remains the only British athlete to win at a throwing event!
We wanted to bring Black History Month to life and make it something that the children could relate to and remember. The children enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of javelin throwing themselves. They then came up with their own questions for Tessa. We were able to film a few children and send it to Tessa herself. We were absolutely thrilled when she saw our video and sent us one back!
